Do I need certification to get paid?

Most paid family caregiver roles require a background check and basic safety training rather than a
professional caregiving license. Some programs require CPR certification before payment begins. We help
schedule and complete any required certifications as part of the enrollment process.

Can a spouse be a paid caregiver?

It depends on the state. Michigan’s Home Help Program generally excludes spouses. Maryland’s
Community First Choice explicitly allows spouses to serve as paid caregivers in eligible arrangements.

How much do family caregivers get paid?

In Michigan, individual caregivers earn $17.13 per hour as of January 1, 2026. In Maryland, rates generally
range from $15 to $20 per hour depending on the program. Pay is calculated against authorized hours
determined by the care recipient’s needs assessment.
